UE - Nerve and Blood Supply Flashcards
Name 5 arteries of the UE
Subclavian a
Axillary a
Brachial a
Ulnar/Radial a
Name 3 sections of the axillary a
1st - begins at lateral border of 1st rib
2nd - pec minor level
3rd - end at inferior border border of the teres major
What is shoulder anastomoses?
Consists of the anterior/posterior circumflex humeral and the 3rd part of axillary artery
Brachial Artery (Begins at)
inferior border of the teres major
Brachial Artery (Ends at)
the cubital fossa (opposite neck of radius)
How does the brachial a. divide?
it divides at the bicipital groove into the profound brachii artery (deep artery of the arm), radial and ulnar arteries
Profound brachii artery follows what
the radial nerve, passing posteriorly along the radial groove
Where does the ulnar/radial arteries divide?
as the brachial artery passes under the bicipital groove
What is Elbow Anastomoses?
it consists of the radial/ulnar collaterals + recurrents
Radial A. - Radial recurrent
anastomosis with radial collateral (from deep A of arm), supply elbow
Radial A. - Superficial palmar branch
anastomosis with terminal part of ulnar A to form SUPERFICIAL palmar ARCH
Radial A. - Palmar carpal branch
anastomosis with carpal branch of ulnar A to form palmar CARPAL ARCH
Radial A. - Dorsal branch
anastomosis with dorsal carpal branch of ulnar A to form DORSAL CARPAL ARCH
Ulnar A. - Anterior ulnar recurrent
anastomosis with inferior ulnar collateral A, supply elbow
Ulnar A. - Posterior ulnar recurrent
anastomosis with superior ulnar collateral A, supply elbow
Ulnar A. - Common interosseous
arises in cubital fossa, divides almost immediately into anterior & posterior interosseous A’s
Anterior – anterior of interosseous membrane(IM) and then pierces IM and travels posteriorly (suuplies both compartments)
Posterior – travels posterior to IM, gives of recurrent interosseous which helps supply elbow
Ulnar A. - Palmar carpal branch
anastomosis with palmar carpal branch of radial A to form palmar CARPAL ARCH
