16
Q

Ulnar A. - Common interosseous

A

arises in cubital fossa, divides almost immediately into anterior & posterior interosseous A’s
Anterior – anterior of interosseous membrane(IM) and then pierces IM and travels posteriorly (suuplies both compartments)
Posterior – travels posterior to IM, gives of recurrent interosseous which helps supply elbow

21
Q

What are the 6 divisions of the Brachial Plexus?

A

Roots, trunk, divisions, cords, and terminal branches (peripheral nerves)

22
Q

What are the 4 major terminals in the Brachial Plexus?

A

Radial, Median, Ulnar, & Musculocutaneous nerves

22
Q

Which roots form the Brachial Plexus?

A

C5, C6, C7, C8, & T1

23
Q

Where does the Brachial Plexus pass through?

A

the neck and axilla to arm

24
Q

Where does the Brachial Plexus emerge?

A

Between the anterior and middle scalene

25
Q

What is the Brachial Plexus responsible for?

A

Cutaneous and muscular innervation of the entire upper limb, EXCEPT the trapezius and a small area of skin near the axilla

26
Q

How many trunks of brachial plexus?

A

3 - superior, middle, inferior

27
Q

How many divisions of brachial plexus?

A

6:
3 anterior / 3 posterior - superior, middle, inferior

28
Q

How many cords of brachial plexus?

A

3 - lateral, posterior, medial

29
Q

Axillary Nerve - Course

A

-Emerges from the posterior cord
-Passes through quadrangular space
-innervates deltoid and teres minor

30
Q

Musculocutaneous Nerve -Course

A

-Emerges from lateral cord
-pierces coracobrachialis
-travels between biceps brachii and brachialis
-innervates coracobrachialis, biceps brachii, brachialis
-cont’s to forearm to form lateral cutaneous nerve (sensations from anterolateral forearm)

31
Q

Radial Nerve - course to forearm

A

-Emerges from posterior cord
-exits post./infer. to teres major
-descends w/ deep a. of the arm as it wraps along the spiral (radial) groove of humerus
-descends btw the lat./med. heads pf the triceps
-wraps ant. as it pierces lateral intermuscular septum
-passes ant. to elbow as it descends into forearm

32
Q

Radial Nerve - course to wrist

A

-Enters forearm anterior to elbow
-Divides into deep and superficial branches
-Superficial branch descends deep to brachioradialis to supply sensation in hand
-Deep branch descends through supinator & innervates: Extensor carpi radialis brevis + Supinator
-Deep branch becomes Posterior interosseous nerve (PIN) distal to supinator

33
Q

What does the PIN innervate?

A

-Extensor digitorum
-Extensor digiti minimi
-Extensor carpi ulnaris
-Extensor indices
-Abductor pollicis longus
-Extensor pollicis longus and brevis

34
Q

Median Nerve - Course

A

-Emerges from medial and later cords
-Follows brachial artery (lat. than medially) as it descends to arm
-DOES NOT supply any muscles in the axilla or upper arm
-Innervates most muscles of the ant. compartment of forearm, some intrinsic of the hand
-enters forearm via cubital fossa

35
Q

Ulnar Nerve -Course

A

-Emerges from Medial Cord
-Follows brachial artery (medially) as it descends in arm
-DOES NOT supply any muscles in the axilla or upper arm
-Innervates a few flexors and receives cutaneous sensory info from D5 & medial ½ of D4
-Descends POSTERIOR to elbow; posterior to the medial epicondyle and medial to the olecranon
-Enters forearm via cubital tunnel
