UE Muscle Length Tests Flashcards
Pec major clavicular head?
similar set up to apprehension test except elbow can be extended or flexed and UE moved into horizontal ABD and judge if slight barrier (normal) or hard barrier (abnormal)
feel for humeral head or rib cage elevation or pt is unable to get humerus level with table
Pec major sternal head?
pt arm moved into full ABD and full horizontal ABD , pts arm should remain in contact with table entire time
PEc minor?
patient lies supine and assess if lateral border of scap is more than 1 inch off table
Lats?
pt is supine and performs B shoulder flexion, PT stabilizes trunk
observe shoulder flexion and lumbar lordosis
provide over pressure as needed
Biceps?
pt seated or supine and arm put into hyperextension, elbow extension and pronation and see if elbow can or cannot fully extend
anterior capsule can also restrict elbow
Triceps?
pt supine or sitting and shoulder completely flexed PT then passively flexes elbow and stabilizes shoulder jt
if elbow can’t flex then could be tricep shortness and measure flexion with goni
if arm not in full flexion and triceps still shortened could be posterior capsule
