Joint Play Assessment: GH, AC, SC, ST Flashcards
What are only grades of traction?
1-3
3 actually stretches tissue and jt capsule
What grade of mobilization should you always test any joint in?
GRADE 3
What is a grade 1 mob.?
small amplitude at beginning of available ROM
What is grade 2 mob.?
large amplitude at middle of ROM
What is grade 3 mob.?
large amplitude at end ROM
What is grade 4 mob.?
small amplitude at end ROM (last 25%)
What is the open packed position of the GH joint?
55 degrees abduction, 30 degrees hor. ADD and neutral rotation
When is distraction of GH indicated?
to increase overall ROM of joint but primarily used for pain
How is distraction performed?
pt supine with GH joint in resting position and move humerus laterally
When is an inferior glide indicated?
to increase ABD and increase subacromial space
When is a posterior glide indicated?
to increase flexion, IR and potentially ER in adhesive capsulitis
What is important to remember about mobilizing force with a posterior glide?
movement must be posterior and laterally to avoid glenoid
When is an anterior glide indicated?
to increase extension or external rotation, not often used b/c most pts are already in this position
What is important to remember about mobilizing force of an anterior glide?
must be anterior and medially
What is resting position of the AC joint?
arm by side
What are two types of glides performed on AC joint?
anterior and posterior glide
What is indication of an AC jt glide?
to increase overall ROM and increase ROM into shoulder elevation
Where does PT stabilize for an AC jt glide?
fixate scapula by grabbing coracoid and spine of scapula
What is resting position of SCjt?
arm by side
What is indication for a inferior glide of SC joint?
to increase elevation and can be done in supine or sitting
What is indication for a superior glide of SC joint?
to increase depression, done in supine
What is a posterior glide of SC indicated?
to increase retraction done in supine
When is ST distraction indicated?
to increase overall scapular ROM
How do you perform ST distraction?
pt lies in sidling facing you and your arm goes under theirs to help relax, grab under medial border and inferior angle
