Udder Flashcards
Breakdown of the ? and ? suspensory laminae of the udder may occur due to excessive strain of the ? apparatus
Medial, lateral, suspensory
Are the duct systems of the four quarters independent or dependent with eachother?
Independent of eachother but infection can spread ipsilaterally
What is the “milk vein”?
Superficial cranial epigastric vein or subcutaneous abdominal vein
What is the main supply of blood to the udder in bovine?
external pudendal a/v

There are no direct connections between the cran. and caud. superficial epigastric veins.
When does the formation of the subcutaneous abdominal (milk) vein occur?
After pregnancy when the veins become distended and their valves become insufficient.
Which nerve carries most sensory information from the udder, which is essential for milk production and milk release?
Genitofemoral (L2-4).
What lymph nodes drain the udder?
Mammary superficial inguinal lymph nodes which drain into the deep inguinal lymph nodes
What are the three major nerves involved with innervation of the udder?
- Genitofemoral (major innervation)
- Iliohypogastric
- Ventral perineal
