What are perikymata?
Perikymata is the outward aspect of internal growth increments; the normal transverse wavelike grooves or lines on the external surface of the tooth. They can be lost through tooth wear.
What are linear enamel hypoplasia?
A disruption to enamel formation that causes deep grooves to form on the surface of the tooth.
What causes linear enamel hypoplasia?
Generally caused by poor nutrition “stressful event” during the development of the tooth. e.g. calium defieincy in childhood while adult teeth are still developing
What are mamelons?
elevations in the cutting edge of the newly emerged anterior teeth (incisors) that correspond to their developmental lobes. These in due course wear off to form a flat cutting edge.
