U3U3 - Graphical displays Flashcards
u shaped distribution
U-shaped distribution - this occurs when there are peaks at either end of the range. It can also be described as bimodal distribution (2 peaks). Examples of this are people who get the flu, as younger and older people get it the most.
uniform distribution
Uniform distribution - this occurs when each outcome has a similar frequency and the height of each bar is roughly equal. Examples of this can include, height of midgets and a dice rolling experiment.
mound shaped distribution
Mound-shaped distribution - this distribution has an interval with the greatest frequency, and the frequencies of all other intervals decrease on either side of that. An example of this would be rolling two dice and finding their sum.
skewed distribution
Skewed distribution - where one interval/group contains the greatest frequency near one end of the histogram. This makes the other distributions tail off to the end or right.
how do you calculate bin width
Bin width = range/#of intervals
types of frequency
Types of frequency:
Relative frequency - the % that the interval represents of the whole population.
Cumulative frequency - the total of all frequencies up to a certain value of the variable.
