What do Victorians have the right to do?

What’s the HCC?
fee-free organization that receives/ resolves complaints about health service providers through impartial/confidential process.
What does HCC work under?
the Health Complaints Act in 2016.
What are some examples of complaints managed by the HCC?
access to services quality and safety care and attention communication handling by health service provider
What are examples of registered health practitioners?
doctors, dentists, nurses , midwives , physiotherapists chiropractors, optometrists, pharmacists
What are some examples of non-registered health practitioners?
dietitians, speech pathologists, homeopaths, counsellors
What are some outcomes of complaints ?
an explanation an apology access to treatment a refund or compensation (payment) a change in policy
What is the first step in dealing with a complaint?
figure out if if another agency or HCC should tackle it.
What’s the easiest way to resolve a complaint?
to confirm that the person making the complaint has tried to resolve the issues with the service provider.
What are the three courses of action possible?
Early resolution
formal resolution
Investigation
What is early resolution?
least formal path
complaint discussed with both parties
no resolution HCC may not be able to assist
What is a formal resolution?
documented steps towards a solution
formal description first written with a resolution plan to health service provider
What is an investigation?
formal and detailed examination to handle complex matter
investigate public and private organizations as well as individual practitioners.
