According to SACE’ code of conduct teachers cannot
- -Physically or psychologically abuse learners
- -Violate a learner’s right to privacy
- -Have sexual relationship with learner
- -Sexually harass learner or colleague
- -Undermine status & authority of colleagues
- -Talk about confidential matters with unauthorised persons

According to SACE’ code of conduct teachers must
- -Use appropriate language
- -Promote gender equality
- -Practice authority with compassion
- -Keep parents informed of learners’ progress

State addresses issue by giving power to SACE to:
- -Investigate complaints
- -Impose fines of up to R1000 on unprofessional teachers
- -Ban them from working in public schools

- -Labour Relations Act (LRA) ensures rights & obligations of teachers as workers and citizens are met
- -The rights and obligations come from Constitution
- -Teachers must be aware that they cannot behave unprofessionally
- -Teachers accused of unprofessional behaviour must appear before a disciplinary hearing.
- -All teachers must register through SACE as it is a National Registration Council for Teachers
