U2 : Emerging trends in engineering Flashcards
What is AI in engineering ?
The ability of machines to gather information, perform analysis and make autonomous decisions. Applications in healthcare - Able to recognise health conditions from photographic images - improved rate of early diagnosis which imprioves everything else. Other examples : Manufacturing data from tempratures and vibrations can help identify maintenance problems- increases rates of efficiency in machines. . Robot systems.
What is VR in engineering ?
Immersive technology that allows a user to experience a digitally generated scene as if they inhabited the virtual space. Can help with everything really : stimulated tarining such as learning how to drive. In Manufacturing VR is an important design tool that allows complex products and systems to be assembled and tested virtually before they are built. this is kkey in aerospace.
What is AR in engineering ?
Technology that allows users to enhance their real-world experience with real-time, computer generated augmentations or overlays. Already has applications in meciation. In Manufacturing Boeing uses AR to provide writing diagram overlays for workers tasked with installing the thousands of electrical connections in the aicrcraft.
