- President Eisenhower refused to apologies which ruined the relationship and causes distrust
- USA is becoming more fearful of communism entering the USA (America is more likely to retaliate as they’re on edge)
- the HUAC is set up
- Eisenhower wanted to improve relations but tensions were as high as ever
What were the impacts for the USSR
- Krushchev refused to meet the president again (long term- no resolution could be met)
- Some argued that Krushchev wanted the summit to fail to show that he was a strong leader
What were the impacts for international relations
- Eisenhower & Krushchev are due to meet at the Paris Peace summit but Krushchev walked out before anything could be discussed (showing they’re not willing to work together so peace won’t be achieved)
- Krushchev cancelled his trip to the USA in June (seen as a long term issue)
