U1C2: Similar Figures Flashcards
similar polygons
if two polygons are similar, then their corresponding angles are congruent and the ratios of the lengths of their corresponding sides are equal
perimeter and area of similar polygons
ratio of sides: a to b
ratio of perimeters: a to b
ratio of areas: a^2 to b^2
triangle proportionality theorem
if a line parallel to one side of a triangle intersects the other two sides, then it divides the two sides proportionally
midsegment theorem
the midsegment connecting two sides of the triangle is parallel to the third side of the triangle and half the length of the third side
also
when all three midsegments are drawn, you make a smaller triangle, and the perimeter of that triangle is half the perimeter of the original triangle
parallel proportionality theorem
if three or more parallel lines intersect two transversals, then they divide the transversals proportionally
