Agriculture
The study of past societies through an analysis of the items people left behind
Archaeology
man-made remains of things left behind by a group of people (ie: tools or weapons)
Artifact
Scientific process used to determine the age of fossils (C-14)
Carbon Dating
Form of culture characterized by cities, specialized workers, complex institutions, record keeping and advanced technology.
Civilization
A small group of people united by actual or perceived kinship ties; a familial unit of either blood relations or chosen bonding
Clans
A people’s united way of life as shown by its tools, customs, arts and ideas.
Culture
Taming of animals for human use ie: labor or food
Domestication
Remains of any living thing ie: humans, plants, animals
Fossil
A member of a biological group including human beings and related species that walk upright
Hominid
Modern Humans; “Wise man” or “Thinking man”
Homo Sapiens
Humans that hunt animals and gather plants for survival
Hunter-gatherers
Movement of people from one place to another
Migration
The New Stone Age; the time period after the Paleolithic Era, marked by the Agricultural Revolution and the use of advanced stone tools
Neolithic Era
Someone that moves from place to place based on survival needs, does not stay in one place for any extended period of time
