North and South of the equator
How long does it take them to form
A few days or 6 - 12 hours
How do they form?
When the air over the warm sea starts to expand and rise, making a area that holds low pressure which sucks in the air
What directions does the air go?
Clockwise or anticlockwise
What is the eye?
The most peaceful area in the storm
How far can the air climb?
About 10 000 meters above water
How fast do the wind speeds go?
About 240 - 300 km per hour which is the area around the eye
How do scientists monitor the diasters
With a satellite or an aeroplane surveillance
What happens when a diaster crosses land or cooler waters?
It loses it’s power and the winds start to slow down to less that 120 km per hour.
What happens when the air rises?
The moisture is then collects condenses, making giant clouds and producing heavy rainfall.
What happens when the diaster remains over warm water?
It continues to get moisture and become more powerful
What are tropical storms?
