after tracking westward it developed into a tropical storm by the 4th November

rapid intensification meant it was at typhoon intensity by the 5th November
when was it assessed as a category 5 and what were the windspeeds?
6th November it was assessed as category 5 on Simpsons index with windspeeds of over 250km/hour
when did Haiyan reach the Philippines and where did it cause destruction?
7th November it reached the Philippines and caused destruction around Tacloban, which was struck by the Northern eyewall
what were the highest windspeeds reached?
315km/hour - most powerful to strike land
when did Haiyan reach Vietnam and how did it get there?
Haiyan travelled westward after the Phillipines towards Southeast Asia and eventually reached North Vietnam on 10th November
when did Haiyan dissipate and where?
dissipated as a tropical depression over Southern China on 11th

as it lies in the center of the Philippines where tropical storms cross from the pacific ocean towards Southeast Asia

as they had moved from the countryside to Tacloban to try and find work

high population density in cities like Tacloban due to people trying to find work leading to overcrowded residential areas

many also have houses on steep hillside

prone to landslides as vegetation has been removed

poor people unable to provide look to regional and national government agencies who often don’t have the resources for the emergencies so people such as people in Tacloban often become dependent on foreign government help and NGO’s
