Class 185

A

The 185 is the longest serving member of the TPE fleet, there are 51 units in service and they are Diesel Multiple Units capable of 100mph

The 185’s are 3-car trains and are currently being used in mostly in 6-car formations with 2 units coupled together.

Nova 1 (Class 802)

A

The Nova 1 is a class 802, these are Bi-mode trains and are operating most of the services to Newcastle and Edinburgh on the TransPennine North route. They are capable of 125mph.

The Nova 1 is a 5-car train and has the largest capacity of the entire fleet with 340 seats.

Nova 2 (Class 397)

A

The Nova 2 is a class 397, 5-car unit, these trains operate mostly on the WCML (West Coast Mainline) from Liverpool and Manchester to both Edinburgh and Glasgow.

They are Electric Multiple Units capable of 125mph.

Nova 3 (Mk 5a coaches with a Class 68 Diesel Loco)

A

The Nova 3 consists of a 5-carriage train with a DVT (Driving van trailer) at one end and a class 68 diesel loco at the other, this provides push/pull power for the units.

The Nova 3 has 292 seats and there will eventually be 13 in service on the TPE network.
