TYPES OF TISSUE Flashcards
Squamous
alveoli/ bowman’s capsule of the nephron
Cuboidal
found in kidneys & small intestine
Ciliated/Columnar
oviducts/ trachea/ bronchi
Epithelial cells
- forms a continuous layer, found at the surface
- no blood vessels but nerve tissue present
- often protective/ secretory function (mucus)
Goblet cells
cilia waft mucus up out of the lungs
- mucus in the lungs to trap dirt & bacteria
Microvilli
folding of the membrane
- increase surface area
Cilia
waft things along the lungs, trachea & fallopian tubes
Skeletal (muscle tissue)
- striped pattern (striated)
- voluntary
- attached to bone, powerful contraction
> limbs
Smooth muscle
- spindle shaped cells
- involuntary
- skin/ walls of blood vessels/ digestive tract (peristalsis)
> pupil dilation
Cardiac muscle
- heart
- myogenic, contract w/o influence from nerves/ hormones
> adrenaline
Connective
Function: connect/ support tissue, contains elastic & collagen fibres w/ adipocytes & immune system cells between
Ligaments: connect bone to elastic tissue
Collagen: forms tendons
Cartilage: end of bones, ear, nose (support & protect)
Bone: made of collagen, calcium & phosphorus matrix (skeleton)
> honeycomb structure
Areolar: connects organs to tissues
Adipose: fatty cells, surround organs & under skin
