TYPES OF T CELLS Flashcards
What are CD4+ Tfh?
T folliclar helper cells
what do T follicular helper cells do?
help form germinal centres and help B cells produce antibodies
what are CD4+ Th1?
T helper 1 cells
what do T helper 1 cells do?
to stimulate cell-mediated responses (those involving cytotoxic T cells and macrophages)
what are CD8+ T cells?
cytotoxic T cells
what do cytotoxic T cells do?
target cells bearing specific antigens and kill them by releasing their cytotoxic granules
what are CD4+ Th2?
T helper 2 cells
what do T helper 2 cells do?
mediate the activation and maintenance of the humoral immune response against extracellular parasites, bacteria, allergens and toxin (stimulating B cells to make antibodies)
what are CD4+ Th17?
T helper 17 cells
what do T helper 17 cells do?
play a role in host defence against extracellular pathogens, particularly at the mucosal and epithelial barriers
what are CD4+ Treg?
T regulatory cells
whats the function of T regulatory cells?
they regulate and suppress other cells in the immune system and therefore help prevent autoimmune disease
what cytokines do T follicular helper cells secrete?
Il-10, IL-21
what cytokines do T helper 1 cells secrete?
IFN and TNF
what cytokines do T helper 2 cells secrete?
IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13
