Types of Shock Flashcards
Shock from the loss of whole blood from the intravascular space
hemorrhagic hypovolemic shock
caused by the loss of fluid from the intravascular space ( diarrhea, vomiting, sweating, & urination)
nonhemorrhagic hypovolemic shock
A form of nonhemorrhagic hypovolemic shock resulting from a burn injury
Burn shock
This type of shock may interrupt the integrity of the capillaries & vessels & allow them to leak plasma & proteins
Burn shock
Hydrostatic pressure exerts a
“push” effect
Plasma oncotic pressure exerts a
“pull” effect
Chemical mediators that are released cause massive systemic vasodilation. Also cause the capillaries to become very permeable and leak
Anaphylactic shock
the medication of choice in an anaphylactic shock pt.
Epinephrine
Shock that results from infection that releases bacteria or toxins in the blood causing the vessels throughout the body to dilate & become permeable
Septic shock
Type of shock where the spinal cord in damaged causing the loss of sympathetic tone causing the vessels to dilate
Neurologic shock
Shock that is most often due to an acute myocardial infraction(heart attack), CHF, abnormal cardiac rhythm, or drug overdose that depress the pumping function of the heart
Cardiogenic shock
