What is a file/print server?

A

Print: Special server that manages print requests and makes printer queue status available to end users and network admins.
File: Server that provides access to stored electronic files.

How does a file/print server work?

A

When you send something to print the print server uses the printers memory to queue the print jobs. If not enough memory to hold jobs, print server will cause the file server to or individual client machines to spool the the printer output.

What is a mail server?

A

Remote or central computer that handles, and delivers emails over a network.
Can be used in schools or organisations. Also when sending emails between you and a friend or relative.

How does a mail server work.

A

When you send an email the email software will connect to the server/network known as SMTP server. Then when you download the emails onto the email software, it will connect to a server known as POP3.

A

Stores data for applications. It then uploads the programs to the computers that need to use them.

A

handles the delivery of web pages and files linked to those web pages. A web server can sit on an intranet so it remains private to those users. It can also be connected to the internet, which means it will handling one or more domain names.
