A
  • imprisonment
  • most serious offences where nothing else could be justified
  • imposed when courts believe public protection
  • length depends on seriousness
  • max / min penalty allowed by law

A

offender not sent to prison unless convicted of a further offence in a time period

A

sentence of imprisonment for a long period of time
- first half served in custody and second half on license
- can be imprisoned for breaching license conditions
