It only has a subject and predicate
E.g.
The dog barked.
The big, hairy dog barked at the postman

A
The rest of the sentence.
It expands and always begins with a verb

It contains a main clause, or thought, and is joined to a subordinate clause ( provides extra info) by a subordinating conjunction
