what are free schools ?
state funded, dont have to teach the national curriculum, inspected by ofsted, the school is set up as a charity which owns the land, the governing body is responsible for the school and its employees. any students can attend- diff types of subjects.
what is social solidarity ?
the integration of people into society through shared values, norms and a common culture amd shared undertandings which brings them together.
what is a comprehensive school ?
state funded, teach the national curriculum, inspected by ofsted. The local authority owns council owns the land and building, employs the staff and oversees admissions and budget.
what is the division of labour
the division of work into a large number of specialaised tasks, each carried out by one worker or group of workers.
what are values and norms
societys shared consensus ‘normal’ ways of acting and the things society collectively deems to be important.
what are universalistic values
derived by parsons
rules and values that apply equally to all members of society.
what is an academy ?
state funded, do not have to teach the national curriculum, inspected by ofstead, can be part of a chain of schools, run like a business, the head teacher= ceo of the school is responsible for all decisions.
what are particularistic values
rules and values that give priority to personal relationships
what is a faith school
state dunded, inspected by ofsted, can be an academy or comprehensive school, selects students for entry based on particular critera
what is private/ indpendent schools
fee paying schools, do not follow the national curriculum not nececssarily inspected bu ofsted, some of these schools also select based on ability.
