The idea that certain actions or beliefs can be adapted to fit the situation. E.g. stealing is a crime but it could be accepted if it was to feed a starving child

Some things like murder or crimes however adultery is a sin

If you think stealing is wrong then you would think it was wrong in every situation

The death penalty for an offence

A punishment that is so severe it puts other people off committing crime

Making a criminal pay for their crimes
What is rehabilitation
Helping criminals to reform so they don’t commit crimes again

During London riots in 2011 a man stole a crate of water from a shop and was sentenced to one year in prison

The death penalty for someone who has committed a murder

Providing education, counselling and training to stop criminals reoffending

This is seen as a fair and just reaction to a crime
Eg an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth

Knowing that they face a severe punishment will make a criminal think twice before breaking the law
What is the explanation for rehabilitation
A criminal who has been educated is more likely to avoid committing further crimes
