What is Part Practice?

A

When the skill is broken down into smaller parts and each part is practiced in isolation before being joined together.

What is Whole Part Whole Practice?

A

The performer first performs the whole skill. Then, the skill it is broken down and it is observed by the coach to see if there are any weaknesses in the whole skill.

Also known as the chain method

A

When a coach would teach different parts of a skill and then bring these all together to create a complete skill.

What is an example of whole practice?

A

A golf swing, which is a ballistic and a highly organised skill that is difficult to break down into its sub-routines for practice.

A

A gymnast may perform a somersault off of a trampete. The teacher may spot that they are not tucked in a tight enough position to get a full rotation.
