Types of Neurones Flashcards
Nerve Impulse:
an electrical signal that passes along the nerve cells called neurones
Axons:
Ensure less time is wasted when the impulse is transferred from one neurone to another
Sensory Neurone
Carry impulses from the sense organs (sensory receptors) to the CNS.
Dendrities:
Extensions which form a network for easy communication.
Motor Neurone?
Carry impulses from the CNS to effectors (muscles or the glands)
Nucleus
Central part of the neuron; located in the cell body; produces energy for cell functions.
Relay Neurone (Interneurone)
The middleman inside the CNS connects sensory to motor neurones.
Cell Body
Contains the nucleus; synthesizes molecules; maintains neuron life.
Myelin
Protein-lipid material; forms sheaths around axons; improves signal transmission.
Nerve endings
located on the end of nerves and are scattered all along surface points of the body
what way does impulses move
It travels in one direction
Job of an neurone
Transmit nerve impulses
dendron
Tiny branches (dendrons) which branch further as dendrites at each end. These receive incoming impulses from other neurones.
Order in a nervous reaction
Stimulus -> receptor cell -> sensory Neuron -> spinal cord -> brain -> spinal cord (Relay neuron) -> motor neuron -> effector -> response
order in a Reflexive nervous reaction
Stimulus -> receptor cell -> sensory Neuron -> spinal cord -> motor neuron -> effector -> response
