A

into a impulse

A

Heat

pressure

14
Q

Stimulus of tongue?

A

Chemical in food

15
Q

Stimulus of Nose

A

Chemicals in the air

16
Q

what does the CNS (central nervous system) consist of

A

Brain and Spinal cord

17
Q

what does the PNS (peripheral nervous system) consists of

A

The nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord

18
Q

Whats the diffrence between CNS and PNS

A

The Central nervous system is the brain and the spinal cord, the peripheral nervous system is every other part of the nervous system.

19
Q

what is an involuntary action

A

An action completed without conscious thought

20
Q

Describe the reflex arc

A

1.) Stimulus detected by a receptor
2.)impulse passed along sensory neurone to relay neurons in the CNS
3.)impulses passed along motor neurone to effector
4.) Effector brings about the response

20
Q

How is an impulse transmitted between two neurones

A

-THe impulse reaches the end of one neuron
-vesciles release neurotransmitter into the synaptic gap
-the neurotransmitter diffuses across the gap and binds to receptors in the membrane of the next neurone
-A new impulse is triggered in the next neurone

21
Q

What is the purpose of synapses

A

To ensure that impulses travel in one direction only

21
Q

what is a synapse

A

A junction between two neurones

22
Q

Reflex action is

A

automatically and rapidly integrating and coordinating stimuli with the responses of effectors
