Q

Negatives for using a network…

A
Data can be manipulated.
Can be sold to 3rd party people.
Costs money to set up and run.
Virus/hacking.
Files can be lost if not backed up.

Q

This operates on a single site such as schools or small businesses. All devices are connected by cable or wireless (no 3rd party people) What network is this?

Q

Covers a wide area (over 2km) and can be connected by leased lines like a phone company for eg. Is a satellite link, internet is an example of it. What network is this?

Q

What is a Bus Topology?

A

One of the oldest ones, all devices connected by a backbone, terminators at each end will prevent data from reflecting along the cable.

Q

What are some advantages for a Bus Topology?

A
Cheap + easiest to install.
New nodes (devices) can be easily added without disrupt of rest of network.

13
Q

Some disadvantages of the Bus Topology…

A

Is bus fails the whole network fails.
Poor security and privacy as all nodes see data before sent to node that it’s meant for.
Limit of number of connections.

15
Q

Advantages of ring topology…

A

Data can be transferred quick, flows in one direction therefore no data collision.
Not affected by heavy traffic.
More nodes can be added without degrading of performance.

16
Q

Disadvantages of Ring topology…

A

If any cable fails, the whole network fails.
Privacy and security issues.
If there’s a problem in network it can be hard to identify.

17
Q

What is a star topology…?

A

Most common way to set up a LAN. In this network hosts are connected to a hub or switch.

18
Q

If one host goes down it doesn’t affect the others.
Network can be easily managed by central hub.
Faster data transfer, no collisions.
What topology is this the advantages of?

A

STAR TOPOLOGY

19
Q

Disadvantages of star topology…?

A

Central point determines performance and number is nodes the network can handle.
If central point fails, the whole network goes down.
More expensive as it has more connections.

20
Q

What is a Mesh topology?

A

When each node co operates in the relaying of data or info in the network. The routing technique or the flooding technique is the design of how a mesh topology works in a network .

21
Q

And advantages of Mesh topology is:

A broken ________ wont distract the transmission of data. What word is missing?

A

NODE

22
Q

Disadvantages of Mesh topology…?

A

Require continuous supervision as redundancies present in the network.
Requires a lot of devices therefore better for bigger companies to invest in.

23
Q

What is ‘The Hub’ (usually centre point of star topology)

A

Is the most basic computing network device which connects devices together and is cheaper than a router or switch. This broadcasts info to all nodes till it reaches the one it needs.

24
Q

What is ‘The Router’?

A

Allows you to connect a number of devices to the internet , and not all devices in your home have to be physically plugged in. The router is more intelligent than switch therefore it just send info to the specific node using IP address.
