A
- the memories of events
- responsible for storing information about events we have experienced in our lives
- involves conscious thought
- includes details of the event, the context in which the event took place and emotions associated with the event
- hippocampus and temporal lobe

- the memory of the meaning of things
- responsible for storing factual information about the world
- includes knowledge about the meaning of words as well as general knowledge
- involves conscious thought
- temporal lobe

- how to walk, talk, ride a bike etc
- concerned with skills
- typically acquired through repetition and practice
- implicit memory - less aware of these memories as they have become automatic - important because we can then focus our attention on other tasks whilst doing everyday tasks
- stored in cerebellum and motor cortex
