- syndesmosis - slight movement, joints between tibia and fibula

- Gliding - sliding movement, intercarpal and intertarsal joints
- Hinge - bending motion in one plane, elbow and knee
- Pivot - rotation around central axis, atlantoaxial and proximal radioulnar joint
- Condyloid - biaxial movement, wrist
- Saddle - wide ROM, biaxial movement, carpometacarpal joint at the base of thumb
- Ball-and-socket - movement in all planes and rotation, shoulder and hip
