A joint is a location where two or more bones meet. The purpose of joints is to allow movement.

- Fibrous joints are immovable and are connected by fibrous tissues, which are rich in collagen.
- Cartilaginous joints are slightly moveable and are connected by cartilage fibres.
- Synovial joints are freely movable.

- Bone ends covered in hyaline cartilage
- Surrounded by fibrous capsule
- In line with synovial membrane which includes synovial fluid
- Ligaments for stability
