What is the primary goal of interest groups?
to influence public policy
a public or private association of individuals or organizations that attempt to influence government decision-making and/or public policy
interest groups
an interest group that includes many groups or institutions with similar interests (usually individual businesses joining together in a larger interest group)

interests groups: promotes interests for the collective/greater good ex. public safety, transportation, education…

to gain particularized benefits for specific interests ex. tax exemptions, fewer regulations ‘
private interest grp
individuals join voluntarily and to which they usually pay dues.often consist of people who have common issues or concerns or who want to be with others who share their views. ex. NRA national rifle association.
membership grps
Many members of associations are
competitors who also want representation individually before the legislature.
