What is a Traditional Nuclear Family?
A married couple with their own children (normally 2 or 3).
What is meant by the term symmetrical family?
Families becoming more equal, women and men having joint roles. E.G. increase in women going out to work and men were doing more housework.
What is a Nuclear family with a House husband?
Where the female adult is the ‘breadwinner’ and the husband does the domestic jobs.
What is meant by Living Apart Together?
Where a couple chooses not to cohabitate.
What is an extended family and why are they popular?
Multiple generations living together which have become popular due to aging population.
What is a beanpole family?
A multi-generational family that is long and thin with few aunts, uncles and grandparents.
What is a Patrifocal lone parent family?
A family headed by a single father.
What is a matrifocal lone parent family?
A family headed by a single mother.
What is a Reconstituted family?
Where two nuclear families have split up and merge to form two new families.
What is meant by the term singledom?
Refers to people living on their own.
What is an Empty nest family?
Where a couple who had children have now left the family home.
What is a Boomerang family?
Where children who have left the family home have come back again.
What is Polygamy?
People who live with more than one partner or spouse.
