Types Of Experiments Flashcards
Quantitative
Approach is to collect numbers
Qualitative
Collecting data that is expressed in words and is non-numerical
Laboratory Experiment (Lab)
Experiment takes place in a controlled environment (Quantitative)
Field Experiment
Experiment is taken place in a natural setting (Quantitative)
Natural Experiment (aka Quasi Experiment)
Involves a naturally occurring IV (Quantitative)
Observations
Usually naturalistic and take place in the participants natural setting (ADD MORE TO THIS DEFENITION) (Quantitative & Qualitative)
Questionnaires
Asking a set list of questions to a number of participants, so that answers can be compared . Usually involves a lot of closed questions but may involve some open questions (Quantitative & Qualitative)
Interviews
Structured , unstructured or semi-structured , uses a questionnaire to ask the participants of the study questions face-to-face directly to the respondent (Quantitative & Qualitative)
Correlations As Design
Technique that can occur with many different research methods , in particular questionnaires-wherever there are quantitative data and those data involve two scores for one person or two scores that may relate (Quantitative)
Case Studies
In-depth and detailed research usually gathering qualitative data although they can also gather quantitative data . Involves individuals or small groups. Many different methods are used to gather the data including the case history ,interviews and questionnaires (Qualitative)
