Types of Energy - Potential Flashcards
Nuclear
The energy is stored by the interactions between protons and neutrons in the atomic nucleus. Examples: nuclear power plants, nuclear weapons, solar fusion.
Chemical
The energy is stored in the bonds that hold the atoms in a molecule together. Examples: Food, fuel, explosives.
Voltage
The energy is stored by fighting the natural repulsion or attraction of electric charges. Examples: Batteries, defibrillators, electric fences.
Elastic potential energy
Energy stored in unstable shapes. Examples: Springs, rubber bands, and paperclips. Have to pull or squish an object for it to have epe.
Gravitational potential energy
Energy stored in unstable positions. Examples: Lifting, climbing stairs.
