Types of Energy Flashcards
States that energy can’t be created or destroyed. Instead it is transferred between objects and changed into different forms.
Law of the Conservation of Energy
Is the form of energy stored by doing work against a force.
Potential Energy
The form of energy stored by lifting an object upwards against gravity which is then released when the object falls.
Gravitational Energy
A form of energy stored by stretching or compressing a spring or elastic band
Elastic Potential Energy
Not elastic
Inelasticity
Form of energy possessed by moving objects
Kinetic Energy
Form of energy stored in chemical elements and compounds which may be released during the exothermic chemical reactions or taken in under endothermic reactions.
Chemical Potential Energy
The form of energy possessed by hot objects
Heat Energy
Force acting between objects with mass and the force is stronger when the mass is larger.
Gravity
Why do things fall?
Because of gravity
Examples of Kinetic Energy
Swinging a baseball bat
Dominos falling
Riding a skateboard
Slinky moving down the stairs
Examples of Potential Energy
Stretched bow
Sitting at the top of a slide
Standing bowling pins
Apple hanging on tree
Gasoline
