Types Of Data Flashcards
Statistic
A numerical measurement describing some characteristic of a sample
Parameter
A numerical measurement describing some characteristic of a population
Quantitative data
Numbers representing counts of measurement
Qualitative data
Consists of names or labels that are not numbers representing counts or measurements
Discrete data
Data where the number of possible values is finite or countable number
Continuous data
Data where there are infinitely many possible values that correspond to some continuous scale that covers a range of values without gaps, interruptions, or jumps
Nominal level of measurent
Data that consists of names, labels, or categories only. The data cannot be arranged in an ordering scheme
Ordinal level of measurement
Data that can be arranged in some order, but the difference between the data values either cannot be determined or are meanigless
Interval level of measurent
Data that can be arranged in some order, where the differences between any two data values is meaningful. However data at this level do not have a natural zero starting point.
Ratio level of measurement
Data that can be arranged in some order, where the difference between any two data values is meaningful and there is a natural zero starting point. Differences and ratios are both meaningful.
