Design Of Experiments Flashcards
Blinding
A technique where a subject does not know whether they are receiving a treatment or a placebo.
Confounding
Occurs when the experimenter is not able to distinguish between te effects of different factors
Double-blinding
Neither the subject nor the person giving the treatment know whether it is a placebo or not
Blocks
Groups of subjects that are similar in ways that might affect the outcome of the experiment
Completely randomized experimental design
Putting subjects into different blocks trough a process of random selection
Rigorously controlled design
Subjects are very carefully chosen so that those in each block are similar in ways that are important to the experiment
Replication
Repetition of an experiment on sufficiently large groups of subjects
Sampling error
The difference between a sample result and the true population result. This type of error is caused by chance sample fluctuations
Non sampling errors
This occurs when the sample data are incorrectly collected, recorded, or analyzed.
Cross-sectional study
A study in which data are observed, measured and collected at one point each time
Retrospective study
A study where data is collected from the past by going back in time
Prospective study
Data are collected in the future from grounds sharing common factors
