What is compliance?
Publicly conforming to the behaviours of others but privately maintaining one’s own view.
Even if you did not agree
This is Normative Social Influence. Wanting to be liked and accepted by others
What is identification?
Adopting views or behaviours of a group.
You value the membership of that group.
Temporary
What is internalisation?
Real change of private views.
This is Informational Social influence. You believe others are correct so you change your views.
What is Normative Social Influence?
This leads to compliance.
The need to be accepted.
Want others to like and respect us.
Agree with them.
Want to fit in the group so you don’t look like an outsider.
This is temporary change in behaviour.
What is Informational Social Influence?
This leads to internalisation.
You believe others are correct.
Look to others for guidance.
This is permanent change In behaviour.
