Types Of Cells Flashcards
Unicellular Organisms
Organisms made up of one cell
Multicellular Organisms
Organisms with more than one cell.
Specialised animal cells
- Muscle Cells
- Nerve Cells
- Fat Cells
- Blood Cells
Muscle Cells
Contain large amounts of mitochondria as lots of energy is needed in these cells. Go from being shorter and fatter (contract longer and skinnier to move the body)
Three main types of muscles
Voluntary muscles - deliberate use of movement
Involuntary - you don’t have to think about these
Cardiac - the muscles in your heart
Nerve cells
Is what your brain is made up of. Some carry messages from your brain to parts of your body or others carry messages from your body to your brain.
Blood cells
Two main types :
1. Red blood = carries oxygen round your body and carry some carbon dioxide out
- White blood = infection fighters (your immune system)
(Your blood also contains other parts like plasma and platelets)
Fat cells
Brown cells produce heat
White stores energy
