Types of camera Shot Flashcards
High angle
The camera is high up, pointing down at the subject, to make it look small, vulnerable, insignificant.
Low angle
The camera down low, pointing up at the subject to make it look bigger, threatening, larger than life.
Overhead shot
Camera is directly above the subject and the shot is taken directly looking down.
Wide shot
As the word suggests, a wide-angle view of a scene
Long shot
View from afar: whole of persons body can be seen.
Mid shot
Show a subject from the middle, waist up, there is less background and figures in the frame. This too can be called a two shot, three shot ect depending on the number of figures. Often shows relationships between two people.
Medium shot
Normally a head and shoulders shot
Close up
Zoomed right in on something eg face
Extreme closeup
Closer still, to focus on something important
Pathetic fallacy
When the mood of a scene is reflected by the weather? I.e dark clouds or rain present in a scene involving sorrow
Amplification
Sounds that are usually quiet that are increased in volume to emphasise how quiet everything else is, or how important the thing making noise is.
Colour (symbolism)
Each colour suggests certain ideas.
Costume
Clothes and costumes work by the characters
Dialogue
The words that characters say
Diegetic sound
Sound which comes from within a shot/scene e.g a radio
Establishing shot
Shit to establish the setting and a time period usually used at the beginning of a film or scene and is often a wide shot
Extreme long shot
When there is a lot of space above and/ or below a character. Their whole body can be seen, plus a lot of the background.
Flashback
When the action of the movie refers to a period before the time of that scene.
Juxtaposed
The contrast of two things to highlight difference.
Non diegetic sound
Sound which comes from outside the shit/scene e.g soundtrack.
Point of view
A shot which is seen from the point of view of one of the characters e.g looking down the scope of a gun.
Symbolic props
An image or concrete object that is used to represent an abstract idea for example the crucifix is used to represent Christianity.
Props
Are anything in the film that is an object used by the characters or uses to help create the mood or setting in the film e.g weapons, police badges ect
Shallow focus
The background is blurry. The foreground (what is right in front) is in focus. This is what the director wants the audience to focus on.
Tracking shot
A camer shot that tracks or follows the subject in the frame
