Adjectives
Adjectives are words that describe the qualities or state of being noun
Eg big, bigger, biggest (most adjectives can be compared)
Noun
A noun is a word the generally functions as the name of a specific object or set of objects, such as living creatures, places, qualities, action and state of existence. It is a person, place, animal or thing
Personification
Giving something human characteristics to something non-human.
Eg. Lighting danced across the sky.
Sibilance
Sibilance is the repetition of letter sounds that have a hushing or hissing quality.
Alliteration
The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.
Eg. sally sells sea shells by the sea shore.
Metaphors
A metaphor is just a figure of speech or a saying.
Eg you get cold feet, Or her room was a pigs sty.
Is normally used to imply something like her rooms a pig sty ( her room was so messy) comparing things without like or as
Onomatopoeia
The formation of words from a sound that is associated with that it is named.
Eg. The pigs oink as they flop in the mud.
Emotive language
Emotive language used to influence an audience by using words and phrases with strong connotations.
Eg. An innocent bystander was murdered in a cold blood in down town Chicago.
Listing
Used to add emphasis to a point
Juxtaposition
Two things that are close together with contrasting meaning ( black and white)
Epizeuxis
Repetition of a word or phrase ( very very)
Pathetic fallacy
When the mood of a scene is reflected by the weather? I.e dark clouds or rain present in a scene involving sorrow
Allusion
designed to call something to mind without mentioning it
Assertion
Expressing feelings and beliefs
Connitation
An idea or feeling that a word invokes
Dialogue/direct speech
Conversation between two or more characters
Imperatives
A command
Neologism
A new word usage or expression
Narrative perspective
The voice telling the story usually third person
Repetition
When a word repeats
Rhetorical question
A question that does not need to be answered
Sensual imagery
Used to engage the reader’s mind on multiple levels
Statistics
A display of data or information about a specific topic
Simile
Are we into objects or scenes are directly compared to each other whether or not, they are actually related (like and as)
