Half Cadence
ends on a five preceded by any other chord
PAC
V(7)-I, in root position (scale degree five to one in the bass); tonic pitch must be in the soprano voice
IAC
one or both conditions of PAC are not met, e.g. viiº-I, V-I but inverted for either of those
plagal Cadence (PC)
IV-I; “amen cadence”
deceptive cadence
V-anything, usually vi in both major and minor modes
phrygian half cadence
iv6-V half cadence in minor
period forms
two phrases (antecedent and consequent), cadence at the end of each
parallel period
both phrases begin with similar/identical material but end differently (sequential and octave relationships count)
