BPS - FEAR AVOIDANCE
Avoidance of movement based on fear of increased P or re-injury
BPS - FEAR AVOIDANCE MANAGEMENT
Prioritise return to normal function and pursue recovery-orientated goals
Helps continue independence without negative thoughts of P, accept they have P and this P accumulates a faster recovery
Aim for P resilience
BPS - GRADUAL EXPOSURE
Gradually expose yourself to feared situation in a way which allows you to control fear at each step
BPS - STAGES OF GRADUAL EXPOSURE
Identify feared situation
Breakdown where you are now and where you need to be in manageable steps
Identify and learn to master the situations that cause mild anxiety
Confront fears regularly
Progressively overcome the situations linked with main anxiety
BPS - GRADUAL EXPOSURE TIPS
Repeat step until you feel comfortable, wont disappear but should reduce, then move on
Keep diary for progress, track anxiety levels at each stage
BPS - CATASTROPHISER
Exaggerate the threat of P
Leads to chronicity as asssociated with disuse and disability
BPS - CATASTROPHISER MANAGEMENT
Gradual exposure to perceived threat to help re-organise the response to non-threatening
BPS - SICKNESS BEHAVIOUR
A general decrease in activity
E.g., immobility, sleepiness, reduced food and water intake
BPS - CONFRONTER
Someone who is keen to maintain activity levels, despite injury
Push through the P type people
BPS - DEALING WITH A CONFRONTER
Make sure they know they have your support through recovery
Remind them its temporary, and of other +Ve things in life
Attempt to educate them of their injury and need for rehab= inc trust in your judgement
Have realistic optimism and +ve
Keep goals in mind- encourage them to think about what reinjury could mean/look like
