  • only used by bacteria
    -DNA is replicated and moved to other side of the cell
  • cell pinches and splits into two new cells.

What is budding? Give an example of something that uses budding for reproduction.

A
  • cells begin to grow off the side of an organism through mitosis. Eventually it breaks off and becomes its own individual. Ex. hydra, yeast

  • SIngle cells are released to float away. If they land in good conditions they will grow into new individuals through mitosis (copy) Ex. mold, mushrooms

  • A piece breaks off an individual and grows into a whole new exact copy of the individual through mitosis.
    Ex. mushroom, starfish
