Types of Antineoplastic Flashcards
Antineoplastics
Inhibit the new growth of cancer cells
Antimetabolites
inhibit cell growth and replication by mimicking natural metabolites and taking their place within the cells inhibiting the synthesis of important cellular enzymes
Alkylating Agents
Interfere with mitosis (cell division) by binding with DNA and preventing cellular replication
Plant Alkaloids
Inhibit the enzyme topoisomerase
Hormones
Used to treat cancers which require hormones to grow by depriving them of said hormones
Antitumor Antibiotics
Interact directly with cancer cells to prevent the DNA from function normally which can result in the death of said cancer’s cells
Radioactive Isotopes
Used to kill cancer cells in a targeted area
