TYPES AND FUNCTION OF THE 4 DIFFERENT MICROSCOPES. Flashcards
How many microscopes are there and what are they?
4
Compound, Transmission electron, Scanning electron, and Dissecting (Microscope)
What is the eye piece and what is it’s function?
Magnifies the specimen for observation, located at the top of the microscope.
What is the Nose piece and what is it’s function?
Holds the objective lenses and allows for easy switching between them.
What is the Objective Lens and what is it’s funtion?
Magnify specimens, typically from 4x to 100x, for detailed observation.
What is the eyepeice tube and what is it’s function?
Holds the eyepiece lens for comfortable viewing on a microscope
What is the Stage Clips and what is it’s function?
Holds the slide in place on the stage so it doesn’t move while you’re viewing the specimen.
What is a Stage and what is it’s function?
Where the specimen slide is placed for observation, often with clips to secure it.
What is the base of the microscope
Provides support, houses the light source, and serves as a platform on a flat surface.
What is the arm and what is it’s function?
Connects the microscope head to the base, providing stability for viewing adjustments.
What is the light and what is it’s function?
Illuminates the specimen from beneath, commonly used for transparent samples.
What is the Fine adjusment knob and what is it’s function?
A slow but precise control used to fine focus the image when viewing at the higher magnifications. (Also smaller of the two knobs)
What is the Coarse adjusment knob and what is it’s function?
A rapid control which allows for quick focusing by moving the objective lens or stage up and down. (bigger knob)
