PROKARYOTES, EUKARYOTES, INDEPENDENT VARIABLE, DEPENDENT VARIABLE. Flashcards
What are Prokaryotes?
No nucleus
Has a circular DNA that floats around freely (not in a nucleus cause there isn’t one)
No membrane bound organelles
Typically smaller than Eukaryotic cells
Unicellular
Some can live without oxygen. (Don’t have to know)
What are Eukaryotes?
Has a nucleus
Has membrane bound organelles
Typically larger than most Prokaryotic cells
Multicellular
Most need oxygen to live. (Don’t have to know.)
Independent Variable
The one factor that is selected to be changed in an experiment
Example:
or
In order to earn extra spending money, Brenna babysits children after school. The amount of money she earns depends on the number of hours she babysits.
m = the amount of money Brenna earns
h = the number of hours Brenna babysits
Which of the variables is independent and which is dependent?
ANSWER: h is the independent variable and m is the dependent variable.
Dependent Variable
Are the factprs that respond to the independent variable
Example:
In an experiment testing plant growth under different light conditions, what is the dependent variable?
A.
Type of plant
B.
Amount of water
C.
Growth rate
D.
Type of light
ANSWER: c is the independent variable
