Give four factors a business must consider when making decisions about production.

State the 3 stages of production.
- Research and design
- Identify the resources
- Obtain feedback from costumers.
Describe job production and give an example.
Job production where items are made individually. E.g designer clothes.
Describe batch production and give an example.
Batch production where groups of items are made together. E.g bread
Describe flow production and give an example.
Flow production where identical, standardised items are produced on an assembly line. E.g cars.
Advantages of job production.
- Job production allows to make unique and high quality products
- Workers are usually motivated and proud of their work.
Disadvantages of job production. (3)
- It takes a lot of time and effort to make each product.
- Special and expensive material might be needed.
- Economies of scale are not possible.
Advantages of batch production. (3)
- Since larger amounts can be made, unit costs are lower.
- Offer the customers a variety of options and products.
- Materials can be buy in bulk so it is cheaper.
Disadvantages of batch production. (3)
- Workers can become less motivated because they work is repetitive.
- Good have to be stored until they are sold which could mean an extra costs for the business.
- Set up costs are high.
Advantages of flow production.
- Labour costs are usually lower.
- Materials can be buy in large quantities so they are usually cheaper.
- Larger amount of products can be produced in less time than which others method of productions.
Disadvantages of flow production.
- Machinery is expensive.
- Workers are not very motivated.
- Not very flexible meaning that it can not be change very easily.
- If there is an error in one part of the production, the whole production will be stopped until fixed.
