What is a public bill?

A

These are bought either by the government as a whole or as an individual MP. Public bulls generally affect the whole county. E.g. Legal services act 2007

A

These are bought by an outside group which only affect a certain area of the country. E.g. White haven harbour act 2007

What are Government bills ?

A

The majority of bills introduced to parliament each year are government bills. These bills are the most successful at becoming laws as they are supported by the government.

Give four reasons why government bills are introduced.

A

In response to specific matter or concern.
To honour promises made in a government manifesto.
To comply with international treaties.

What are private members bills?

A

These a bills introduced by backbench MPs. They are not given much time for discussion in parliament. E.g. Abolishment of the death penalty act

A

When these bills become statues they alter the general law but particularly affect the legal rights of a smaller amount of people. E.g. Cross rail act
