Q

Characteristics of phenomenology

A
  • collection and analysis of PEOPLE’S PERCEPTIONS related to a specific phenomena
  • to discover meaning of lived experience through those that experience it
  • how someone experiences, relates and understands phenomena
  • narratives
TO DISCOVER MEANING OF LIVED EXPERIENCE

Q

Characteristics of grounded theory

A
  • systematic discovery of theory from the data of social research
  • to evolve a theory in the context in which the phenomenon under study occurs. The theory that emerges is intimately linked to daily life experience that it seeks to explain
  • investigator directed
    TO GENERATE THEORY

Q

Characteristics of Participatory Action Research

A
  • to generate knowledge to inform responsive action
  • work w/groups and communities experiencing issues and needs related to health etc.
  • participation of those who are most qualified to experience it
  • grounded in experience of participants
  • action oriented
  • 3 levels of participants: people experiencing it, research and collaborators working together, collaborators communicating w/research
  • Four main principles:
    –> Democracy
    –> Equity
    –> Liberation
    –> Life enhancing
    TO GENERATE KNOWLEDGE TO INFORMATION

Q

Characteristics of ethnography

A
  • involves field activity
  • to understand the underlying patterns of behaviour and the meanings of culture
  • the ethnographer seeks to obtain insider perspective through extended observation, immersion and participation. seeks to understand rules of behaviour

Q

What is the difference b/w ethnography and other designs?

A

Investigator involvement is significant
Structures of the study is not predefined
capable to move beyond description to real complex relationships, patterns and theory

Q

Characteristics of naturalistic meta-analysis

A
  • to generate small and different sets from which to derive a global synthesis. Uses multiple independently conducted studies to synthesize and analyse as a single data set to answer a research Q.
